NASA provided Business Insider with a mosaic of videotape presenting early unmanned rocket launch attempts made by the US military in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Each of these efforts caused spectacular detonations caught on film. According to NASA historian Erik Conway, the video signifies a period when researchers were testing the most powerful devices ever constructed. "The rockets were super-powerful," Conway said. "But they were vulnerable to subtle problems." According to NASA, these launch attempts were unmanned and no one was injured in the blasts. The sound effects added in this video were produced and added by NASA.
