When NASA is fully prepared to send humans to Mars, it will do so by means of the Orion spacecraft, carried via a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket. An unmanned test flight is planned for Thursday, December 4 at 7:05 am EST from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Orion spacecraft, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, will undergo a 4.5 hour-long test flight at an altitude of about 5,800 kilometers, which is roughly 15 times the distance to the ISS.
